Music Therapy Program to Begin Fall 2025

At If Not for Music (INFM) we believe that music has the power to inspire, to transform and even to heal.  That is why we are partnering with music therapist Christina O’Brien from West Chester University and the Mattock School of Music, owned by Dave Mattock, an INFM Board Member, to offer a neuro-inclusive music therapy program for 10–14-year-olds, their families and caregivers. Participants will include those on the autism spectrum or with other neurological conditions such as ADHD.

Designed by O’Brien, the 8-week program, to be taught at the Mattock School of Music, will foster teamwork, cognitive functioning, self-esteem and bonding among the participants. Each cohort will consist of 8-10 children and a family member and/or caregiver.

The instrument of choice for this program is the concert ukulele.  It is easy to hold and learn, and has a deeper, richer sound that is beneficial to autistic children who can be sensitive to some higher sound frequencies. INFM just purchased 20 ukuleles for use in the program from Kala Brand Music Company in CA with help from Taylor’s Music Store and Studios in West Chester, PA.

O’Brien stated, “I am so thankful to If Not for Music for providing the ukuleles for this vital program.” Board Chair Roger Mustalish added, “This program touches on all facets of our Mission by providing students with instruments, enabling instruction, and performing in a communal setting.” Check back later to see how this programming is changing the lives of all the participants.

Our ability to provide the ukuleles for this program was made possible through the generous donations of people like you.  Please consider donating to If Not for Music and give the Gift of Music to aspiring musicians in need.
